2008 CENTEX GAMES A HUGE SUCCESS ONCE AGAIN!
The 14th Annual Centex Jammin All-Star Games were once again a hit! The games were held at UMHB (13th year), and for the
fourth year in their beautiful facility. Players checked in to the dorm on Saturday, July 12, 2008, and then participated
in practices and contests. Fifty-one outstanding area athletes took part in three separate games on Sunday.
Game one kicked off at 1:00 PM, which featured primarily players from smaller schools, although not exclusively.
Team One, dressed in white jerseys and coached by Alvie King of Milano, and Billy Grumbles of Harper, tallied 12 first quarter
points, while Team Two, uniformed in gold and coached by Drew Sumner of Jarrell and Ken Campbell of Reagan County, connected
for 23 balanced points. In the second period, Team One hit for 15 more, while Team Two scored an impressive 23. The Gold
led 46-27 at the iutermission.
Team One managed 27 points in the third period while Team Two tallied 21. The fourth quarter belonged to the White
as they added 21 fourth quarter points and held the Gold squad to 18. When the final horn sounded, Team Two players found
themselves on top 85-75. Team One scoring included: Colin Lee-Harper 7, Christian Herring-Harper 3, Deon Williams-Prairie
Lea 10, Nicholas Barrera-Louise 10, Aaron Gwosdz-Centerville 15, Drew Pollard-Walnut Springs 14, Travis King-Fayetteville
4, Kraig Bates-Centerville 7, and DeJaneiro Jackson-Jasper 5. Team Two scoring included: Greyson Burns- Jarrell 2, Brit Campbell-Reagan
County 25, Cody Aikin-Anderson-Shiro 8, Bryn Allgood-Rochelle 14, Kealton Thompson-Calvert 16, Andrew Small-Slidell 5, and
Austin Llana-Thorndale 15.
Teams Three and Four took the court at 2:30 PM for the second game of the afternoon. Team Three wore white and was
coached by Terry Young of Jasper and Brent Elmore of Crawford. Team Four dressed in gold jerseys and coached by Jason Fry,
former Centex All-Star and Jeremy Fry, former Centex All -Star, defeated Team Three 82-79. Team Three tallied 12 first quarter
points while Team Four scored 16, and what looked to be a close game became reality. Team Two added 15 more before halftime
while Team Four was able to muster 24.
At the half, the Gold held a 40-27 lead. The third quarter belonged to Team Three, 30-26, and while the White team
stayed close and even outscored their opponents 22-16 in the final period, they could never make up the early deficit. When
the horn sounded, Team Four defeated Team Three, 82-79. Scoring for Team Three included: Brock Newsom-Normangee 9, Justin
Aguirre-Normangee 1, Jake Wallace-Monahans 6, Ian Reedy-Graford 10, Landrey Lemons-Holliday 16, Trey Lawson-Holliday 4, Scott
Shuman-Sanger 15, Brandon Jaques-Monahans 10, and Sammy Hill-Sanger 8. Team Four scoring included: Vernon Sparks-Stacey 11,
Antwan Harris-Anderson-Shiro 12, David Rosenau-Salado 22, Michael Loar-Stacey 16, Ryan Heine-Thorndale 2, Seth Hubbard-Beckville
2, T.J. Brown-Clarendon 8, and Chris Saunders-Thorndale 9.
2008 contest winners were announced at halftime of the first game. Three point: 1) Greyson Burns-Jarrell, 2) Justin
Aguirre-Normangee, 3) Kraig Bates-Centerville, 3) tied Zachary Jackson- CC Moody; Free throw: 1) Landrey Lemons-Holliday,
2) Zachary Jackson-CC Moody, 3) Vernon Sparks-Stacey, 4) Seth Hubbard-Beckville; Two ball: 1) Landrey Lemons, Trey Lawson-Holliday,
2) Trey Lippincott-Belton, Zach Dickson-Centerville, 3) Scott Shuman-Sanger, Sammy Hill-Sanger, 4) David Rosenau-Salado, Ian
Reedy-Graford. Knock Out: 1) Johsua Chatman-Hubbard, Cameron Miller-Sanger, Anthony Gonzales-Hearne; Dunk Contest: 1) John
Scott-Gonzales, 2) Joshua Chatman-Hubbard, 3) Jay Herring-Sanger, 4) Cody Aikin-Anderson-Shiro.
The final contest began at 4:30 PM. Teams Five and Six, like the teams before them, did not disappoint the many
fans who attended the yearly event. Team Five, dressed in white and coached by Doug Franklin of Thorndale and Bill Bransom
of Thorndale, exploded for 53 first half points while Team Six wearing gold, and coached by Taylor Rowe of Bremond and Hosea
Smith of Rosebud-Lott, tallied 36. Team Five scored 43 second half points; however,Team Six was able to add 61 of their
own, the first half deficit wasn't enough for the White. Team Six defeated Team Five 97-96.
Scoring for Team Five included: A.J. Smith-Stony Point 17, Tony Rodriguez-Uvalde 8, Stephen Brosch-Granger 2, Trey
Lippincott-Belton 11, Jude Dworaczyk-Alamo Heights 20, Jordan Coffman-Jim Ned 6, Antonio Blanco-Comfort 16, and Casseus Johnson-Weimar
16. Team Six scoring included: Zachary Jackson-CC Moody 6, Anthony Gonzales-Hearne 13, Jay Herring-Sanger 5, Cameron Miller-Sanger

After each game, players and coaches were each presented a commemorative watch as a memento of their participation.
Proceeds from the games, after expenses, will be redirected into a scholarship fund. Recipients will be named at
a later date
