The 13th Annual Centex Jammin' All-Star Games were once again a hit! The games were held at UMHB (12th year), and for the
third year in their beautiful facility. Players checked in to the dorm on Saturday, July 14, 2007, and then participated
in practices and contests. Fifty-three outstanding area athletes took part in three separate games on Sunday.
Game one kicked off at 11:00 AM, which featured primarily players from 1A and 2A schools, although not exclusively. Team
One, dressed in white jerseys and coached by Kevin Kelly of Granger and Jason and Jeremy Fry, former Centex All-Stars, tallied
16 first quarter points, while Team Two, uniformed in black and coached by Alvie King of Milano and Billy Grumbles of Harper,
connected for 22 balanced points. In the second period, Team One hit for 24 more, while Team Two scored an impressive 26.
The Black led 48-40 at the intermission.
Team One managed only 19 points in the third period while Team Two exploded for 32. The fourth quarter belonged to the Black
as they added 25 fourth quarter points and held the White squad to 21. When the final horn sounded, Team Two players found
themselves on top 105-82. Team One scoring included: Jordan Corn, Florence 1, Trey Luna, Granger 16, Jess Hagan, Hondo 25,
Justin Patterson, Monahans 7, Jarell Westbrook, Broaddus 6, Marvin Whitfield, Rosebud-Lott 10, Scott Lambert, Ponder 9, Jeremy
Loyd, Avinger 4, Daniel Balderama, Reicher Catholic 2. Team Two scoring included: Damien Mays, Snook 13, Shane Heinze, Miles
16, Louis King, La Villa 15, Joseph Klepack, Jarrell 19, Kelly Knue, Thorndale 2, Brandon Johns, Troy 12, Derek Reeves, Ore
City 16, and Noah Harbison, Salado 12.
Teams Three and Four took the court at 1:00 PM for the second game of the afternoon. Team Three wore white and was coached
by Drew Sumner of Jarrell and Robbie Robinson of Milano. Team Four dressed in black jerseys and coached by Chris Sodek of
Mumford and Taylor Rowe from Sam Houston State, defeated Team Three 91-87. Team Three tallied 20 first quarter points while
Team Four scored 22, and what looked to be a close game became reality. Team Two added 22 more before halftime while Team
Four was able to muster 24.
At the half, the Black held a 46-42 lead. The third quarter belonged to Team Four, 22-18, and while the White team stayed
close and even outscored their opponents 27-23 in the final period, they could never make up the early deficit. When the horn
sounded, Team Four defeated Team Three, 91-87. Scoring for Team Three included: Kyle Koudela, Louise 9, Jacob Jackson, Chireno
4, Chris Minnitt, McGregor 7, Matthew Lowe, Maypearl 20, Dusty Miller, Academy 9, Tee Richardson, Rockdale 12, Andrew Sumner,

third.
The final contest began at 3:00 PM. Teams Five and Six, like the teams before them, did not disappoint the many fans who
attended the yearly event. Team Five, dressed in white and coached by Kenny Mann of Salado, and Doug Franklin of Thorndale,
exploded for 63 first half points while Team Six wearing black, and coached by Kenny Driska of Rosebud-Lott and Jason Underwood

Plenty of area talent coming to UMHB for 13th Centex Jammin' All-Star Games
BELTON - Boys high school basketball players from Beeville to Monahans to Ponder to Santa Fe to Woden will meet at Mary
Hardin-Baylor's Mayborn Campus Center for the 13th annual Centex Jammin'; All-Star Games today and Sunday.
Not having to travel quite so far to compete are 14 area players who make up a quarter of the event's roster.
Recently graduated seniors from Academy, Granger, Jarrell, Milano, Rockdale, Rosebud-Lott and Salado are set to participate
in today's 7 p.m. skills contests and Sunday’s tripleheader of games at UMHB.
Games founder and coordinator Jeff Lieberman is pleased with the quality of the participating players.
I like what I see and it's a good bunch of kids, said Lieberman, Thorndale's longtime coach who guided the 28-2 Bulldogs
to a Class A state championship in March. I'd say 85 percent of these kids were all-region in their classes this year.
Area players competing are: Granger's Trey Luna and Rosebud-Lott's Marvin Whitfield on Team 1; Salado's Noah Harbison
on Team 2; Academy's Dusty Miller, Jarrell's Patrick Sherek and Andrew Sumner and Rockdale's Tee Richardson on Team 3; Salado's
Ryan Clark and Chad Tumey and Milano's Kendall Clayton and Aaron Compton on Team 5; and Jarrell's Kaleb Cox and Joseph Klepac
on Team 6.
The coaches include Rosebud-Lott's Kenny Driska, Granger's Kevin Kelly, Milano's Alvie King, Salado's Kenny Mann and Drew
Sumner of 2A state semifinalist Jarrell.
Sunday's games are scheduled for 11 a.m. (Team 1 vs. Team 2), 1 p.m. (3 vs. 4) and 3 p.m. (5 vs. 6).
UMHB has such a nice facility, Lieberman said. There's no doubt that it has taken the Games to another level.
Today's skills contests - 3-point shooting, free-throw shooting, 2-ball and dunk preliminaries - are free and open to
the public. All-game tickets for Sunday cost $5 for adults and $2 for students.
Lieberman said he hopes to continue the tradition of using gate receipts to help fund scholarships for at least four players
who will continue their basketball careers in college.
