2003 RESULTS
 The Ninth Annual Centex Jammin All-Star Games were a huge success.  The games were held at  Mary Hardin Baylor University.  Players checked in on Saturday, July 19, 2003 , for practices and contests.  Forty-nine outstanding area athletes took part in 3 games on Sunday.
 Game one kicked off at 11:00 AM, which featured primarily players from 1A and 2A schools, although not exclusively.  Team One, wearing white jerseys and coached by Alvie King of Milano and Terry Young of Leggett,  tallied 19 first quarter points, while the Team Two, dressed in purple and coached by Mike Balderama of Floreseville and Jimmy Rowe of Thorndale,  connected for 13.  In the second period, Team One hit for 19 again, while Team Two scored 18.  The White took a 38-31 lead at halftime.
 Prior to the second half, contest winners from the previous evening were announced.
Three point: Corey Russe, Cole (1st), Jim Andersen, Akins (2nd), Curtis Harris, Eastland (3).

 Team Two outscored the White team 19-17 in the third period to whittle the lead to 5, but Team One managed to hang in the fourth adding 20 to their total, while the Purple added 16.
When the final horn sounded, Team One found themselves on top 75-66.  Team One scoring included: Austin Cardwell, Hutto-5, Damon King, Fayetteville-10, Jay Klein, Stony Point-10, Brian Blackburn, La Vernia-16, Matt Routh, Ponder-3, Matt Hatmaker, Ponder-6, Brian Martin, Milano-11, and Jordan Dent, Milano-10.  Team Two scoring: Matt Galbreath, Thorndale-2, Taylor Rowe, Thorndale-4, Clint Repa, Granger-5, Zachary Collier, Bruceville Eddy-5, James Huf, Granger-17, Callen McClendon, Huckabay-2, Jim Andersen, Akins-18, and Jacob Graham, Iraan-13.
 Team Three and Four took the court at 3:00 PM for second game of the afternoon.  Team Four wearing purple jerseys and coached by Tommy Jackson of Franklin defeated Team Three 102-84.  Team Four broke out in quarter one with 32 points scored by seven of the nine players on the squad. Team Three, dressed in white and coached by Kevin Fraunberger of Mexia, accumulated 21 of their points, also tallied by seven of the nine players on their squad. Team Four added 27 second quarter points while their opponents mustered 25.
 At halftime, the finals of the dunk contest gave the fans even more to cheer about, as three contestants vied for the 2003 title.  Danny Armelin of Gonzales captured the crown, while Luke Cribbs of L.D. Bell took runner-up. Jay Klein of Stony Point finished third. The previous evening over 15 players competed for the three finalist spots.
  In the second half, the White crew nibbled at the lead, but could not make up the gap from quarters one and two.  Team Three hit for 28 and 10, while Team Four added 25 and 18.
Scoring for Team Three:  Matt Hogue, New Braunfels-18, Danny Armelin, Gonzales-20, Luke Kusy, Schulenburg-2, O.J. Doolittle, Clarksville-9, Dexter Pickens, Leggett-8, Juan Trevino, Keene-4, Cory Benson, Smyer-16, Tony Brooks, Mexia-2, and Jed Snyder, Dilley-2.
 Team Four: Len Medcafe 17, Kody Lyytinen 17, Derek Faught 17, Ray Collins 5, Curtis Harris 8, Corey Russe 15, Kevin Porter 12, William Anthony 9, Zach Pickelman 4.
The final contest began at 3:00 PM and featured mainly 4A and 5A athletes.  Teams Five and Six did not disappoint the many fans who attended the yearly event.  Team Five, wearing white and coached by Kenny Driska of Rosebud Lott, exploded in the first period for 26 points while holding Team Six, purple, to 16.  Team Five surged ahead early in quarter two;  however, Team Six, wearing purple and coached by Jason Simank , former UMHB player, Justin Simank, former UMHB player, and Jason Fry, former Centex All-Star, refused to make it easy, outscoring the White 28-24.  In the second half, Team Five looked to be an easy winner, by adding 25 third period points to Team Sixs 23, and taking a 75-67 lead into the final period.  The Purple squad found themselves behind 102-85 with only minutes remaining in the game, when they regrouped, caught their opponents with a 37 point period, and forced the game into overtime. At the end of regulation, both teams showed 104 points on the scoreboard.  Free throw shooting proved to be  the deciding factor, as Team Five made 7 of 8; Team Six could manage only 2 of 6.  Team Five took the hard fought win by outscoring Team Six, 117-110.
 Scoring for Team Five included: Thomas Palmer, Fairfield-13, William Henderson, Mexia-8, Jay Klein, Stony Point-7, Luke Cribbs, LD Bell-27, Brandon Williams, Tyler-13, Pierron Gates, North Garland-14, Matt Brown, McGregor-14, Connor Kuykendall, Midlothian-13, and Josh Dykes, Alvord-10.  Team Six scoring: Rayford Marcus, Seguin-28, Scooter McCoy-Robinson-11, Ethan Sanders, Seguin-16, Derek Faught, Ozona-8, Victor Freeman, Everman-6, Greg Winters, New Braunfels-9, Jim Andersen, Akins-10, Ben Pemberton, Hawkins-2, and Bret Emery, Decatur-20.
 After each game, players and coaches were each presented a commemorative watch as a memento of their participation.
 Proceeds from the games, after expenses, will be redirected into a scholarship fund.  Recipients will be named at a later date.  A raffle was held throughout the day to raise additional money for scholarships.
 Many sponsors and volunteers graciously donate time and money to the annual event.

Centex Jammin All-Star Games closes with overtime thriller
The ninth annual Centex Jammin All-Star Games closed with a bang Sunday night, as Team Five edged Team Six 117-110 in overtime. The overtime tilt featured mainly athletes from Classes 4A and 5A and was the last of the three all-star games played at the University of Mary Hardin-Baylors Mabee Gym in Belton. The Games after-expenses revenue goes toward a scholarship fund for selected participants who try to further their basketball careers at the collegiate level. Team Five, coached by Rosebud-Lotts Kenny Driska, got 27 points from Luke Cribbs (Hurst Bell). Former UMHB players Jason Simank and Justin Simank coached Team Six, which was led by Rayford Marcus (Seguin) 28 points. In the opening game, Team One toppled Team Two 75-66. The winners, coached by Milanos Alvie King and Leggetts Terry Young, were spurred by Brian Blackburns (La Vernia) 16 points. Milanos Brian Martin and Jordan Dent tallied 11 points each. Team Two, coached by Floresvilles Mike Balderama and Thorndales Jimmy Rowe, got 18 points from Austin Akins Jim Andersen and 17 from Grangers James Huf. Franklins Tommy Jackson coached Team Four to a 102-84 win over Team Three in the second game. Danny Armelin (Gonzales) poured in 20 points for Team Three, coached by Mexias Kevin Fraunberger.

Where: Mary Hardin Baylor University, Belton, Texas

Specifics: 6 teams of 8-10 players each will be selected.

Players will arrive on Saturday, July 19 for practice and contests. Games are played on Sunday @ 11 AM, 1 PM, and 3 PM.

Cost: Each player will need to secure $85.00 worth of ads to help cover (a portion of) uniform, t-shirts, award, room, board, and other costs associated with the games.

Scholarships: Money generated by the gate is redirected into the scholarship fund.

Admission: $5.00 adults, $2.00 students, children

This year's raffle includes: 2- $50.00 bills, CD player, basketballs, 2 way radios,  radio, Centex t-shirts, golf balls, and much, much more!
