2008 CENTEX GAMES A HUGE SUCCESS ONCE AGAIN!
The 14th Annual Centex Jammin All-Star Games were once again a hit! The games were held at UMHB (13th year), and for the fourth year in their beautiful facility. Players checked in to the dorm on Saturday, July 12, 2008, and then participated in practices and contests. Fifty-one outstanding area athletes took part in three separate games on Sunday.
Game one kicked off at 1:00 PM, which featured primarily players from smaller schools, although not exclusively. Team One, dressed in white jerseys and coached by Alvie King of Milano, and Billy Grumbles of Harper, tallied 12 first quarter points, while Team Two, uniformed in gold and coached by Drew Sumner of Jarrell and Ken Campbell of Reagan County, connected for 23 balanced points. In the second period, Team One hit for 15 more, while Team Two scored an impressive 23. The Gold led 46-27 at the iutermission.
Team One managed 27 points in the third period while Team Two tallied 21. The fourth quarter belonged to the White as they added 21 fourth quarter points and held the Gold squad to 18. When the final horn sounded, Team Two players found themselves on top 85-75. Team One scoring included: Colin Lee-Harper 7, Christian Herring-Harper 3, Deon Williams-Prairie Lea 10, Nicholas Barrera-Louise 10, Aaron Gwosdz-Centerville 15, Drew Pollard-Walnut Springs 14, Travis King-Fayetteville 4, Kraig Bates-Centerville 7, and DeJaneiro Jackson-Jasper 5. Teams Three and Four took the court at 2:30 PM for the second game of the afternoon. Team Three wore white and was coached by Terry Young of Jasper and Brent Elmore of Crawford. Team Four dressed in gold jerseys and coached by Jason Fry, former Centex All-Star and Jeremy Fry, former Centex All -Star, defeated Team Three 82-79. Team Three tallied 12 first quarter points while Team Four scored 16, and what looked to be a close game became reality. Team Two added 15 more before halftime while Team Four was able to muster 24.
At the half, the Gold held a 40-27 lead. The third quarter belonged to Team Three, 30-26, and while the White team stayed close and even outscored their opponents 22-16 in the final period, they could never make up the early deficit.
